Your support makes our mission possible

Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy inspires, nurtures, and empowers children to live up to the full promise of their individual and unique talents and capabilities. We support parents through an educational model that combines Montessori education with a Catholic environment. Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy is inclusive to families of all ethnic, religious, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

We are committed to providing a high quality and reasonable priced education. The cost of tuition does not cover the costs of educating students at Cardinal Bernardin. We are grateful for the dozens of donors that make gifts to support the educational experience at the school.

There are varied ways to give to Cardinal Bernardin including:

  • Student scholarships that make it possible for any Chicago child to benefit from the Cardinal Bernardin experience
  • Montessori curriculum, building projects and gardens that enrich the learning experience
  • Parent resources that help you bring the Montessori experience home

Help us make a difference.

Venetian Carnivale: Our Annual Winter Benefit

Venetian Carnivale is Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy’s annual winter benefit. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and is completely created, organized, and run by our parents. The event will take place on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at Zia’s Lago Vista, a rustic Italian trattoria in the heart of Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. All funds raised help us to keep our tuition low, fund scholarships,  strengthen and grow our student experience.

Parent/Family Giving Opportunities

The Annual Fund

Cardinal Bernardin is a self-supporting school without outside financial assistance. Each year the Academy must raise significant dollars through a program of voluntary annual giving in our Annual Fund.

With a goal of 100% faculty, staff and parent participation, the annual fund helps to strengthen and grow our programs, expand our enrichment classes, fund our new website and more.

All of us at Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy are grateful for the support of parents and friends that help sustain a rich educational experience for our children.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all gifts to the Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Thank you to all that donated and a special thank you to the following families and individuals:

Connie Meyer; Emilia Apostolova; Alan Laurencelle; Elizabeth Weinmann; Joseph Wargel; Emily Doskow; Jena Valdetero; Katherine Welch; Rachel iannantuoni; Brooke Hunia; Anna and William Edwards; Jan and Edidiong Kaminscy; Brad Shearn; Maura Lund; Julie Wilson; Elizabeth Latimer; Jonathan Tarud; Christopher Meister; Michael And Diane Wall; Andrew Schwark; Madelyn Dow; Ashley Koenigsknecht; Bryan Barlow; Kate Baker.

Student Scholarships

Need-based scholarships allow more children to benefit from our programs and while maintaining the school’s rich and vibrant diversity.

Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy’s program offers a relatively affordable option among private institutions for parents in Chicago seeking personalized, engaging and self-directed learning experience. However, tuition can still be cost prohibitive for some families. Our scholarship funds help to fill the gaps.

Family Service Hours

Each of our families contribute greatly with their time and talent by giving 15-20 service hours each year to benefit our school.

There are many ways each person helps and we are grateful to have a talented family of parents willing to serve our students. We count on all families in our school community to help us in a myriad of ways: keeping our gardens clean, preparing for family festivals at the Academy, becoming a room parent, and more.

Hours may be served by parents, grandparents, or other family members and must be completed by May 31st.

Our Montessori Experience

Our Montessori experience… a child-centered approach based on more than a century of scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood in diverse cultures throughout the world.

Our school experience…  students learn traditional subjects like reading, math, science, and geography and take part in art and creative work, learning practical life skills and engaging with other cultures.

Focus on the whole child… spirit, soul, and body. We promote the values of inclusion, justice, love and peace, rooted strongly in our Catholic identity. We work to instill a love of learning, promote self-esteem, and motivate students to action, all in the confines of discipline and order. We support children as they develop into creative, competent human beings who respect self, others, and the world around them.

Highly qualified and equipped… To ensure individual attention and nurturing support for every child, each classroom has a lead teacher with full Montessori certification and an aide best child-centered experience to our students.

Gifts of stock offer a tax benefit in two ways. First, the donor avoids paying capital gains tax on the increased value of the stock. Second, the donor can take a tax deduction for the full market value of the stock on the date of the gift.

For example, if you give one share of stock to Cardinal Bernardin that was purchased for $1,000 in 1990 and is valued at $1,750 today, you will avoid paying any tax on the $750 gain from the original investment. Further, you are allowed to claim a tax-deductible gift of $1,750.

You may make a gift of stock by asking your stock broker to transfer the number of shares you would like to donate to Cardinal Bernardin. For further information on how to donate stock, contact Mrs. Barbara Labotka by phone at 773-975-6330 or by e-mail at blabotka@cbmontessori.org
