Of the thousands of private and hundreds of public Montessori schools in the United States, there are only about 25 private, Catholic Montessori Schools in the entire country. Cardinal Bernardin Montessori Academy is the only Catholic Montessori School in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Montessori Primary Directress (3-6)

Cardinal Bernardin seeks a cheerful, gentle, and energetic individual to lead a Primary (ages 3-6) Montessori classroom. This is a full-time opportunity to work with incredible children and an amazing team that starts next August.


  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and application of Montessori principles
  • Create and maintain a neat, well-organized, and prepared environment that fosters Montessori learning
  • Supervise and support Teaching Assistant by offering guidance through presentations as needed, mentoring in the Montessori philosophy, and engaging in productive dialogue
  • Keep daily, weekly, and monthly lesson plans, which describe lessons given, curriculum covered, and observation notes for each child, that are turned in when directed
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • Update all necessary records as required by laws, school policies, and regulations
  • Make materials when and where needed while maintaining classroom supply
  • Develop close and effective relationships with parents to help support their children’s progress
  • Participate in professional activities prepared by the Principal, which include workshops, meetings, and planning sessions


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • AMI, AMS, NCME, and/or MACTE credential (3-6 preferred; we will provide a paid internship in pursuit of completion of Montessori credential if needed)
  • Effective verbal and written communicator
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a variety of settings and environments
  • Basic understanding of a child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development


As a directress, you’ll work for dedicated parents and children in the large, airy classrooms of our school’s beautiful 2-acre urban campus in Lincoln Park. This position offers competitive pay and is eligible for excellent benefits. Archdiocesan benefits are also available.

Teacher Assistant


  • Under the general direction of the school principal, and under a credentialed Montessori teacher, assists in the instruction of students, assists in the supervision of students during classroom instruction, lunchroom and playground activities, assists in maintaining the orderly arrangement of classrooms, consults with teachers regarding concerns of individual students, and performs related duties as required.


  • Training and Experience
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university and enrolled in a Montessori accredited training program and working toward successful completion of a Montessori credential  at student’s expense in order to become a lead teacher in a classroom
  • Archdiocese of Chicago Virtus training


  • Basic knowledge of the Montessori philosophy and method of education
  • Good knowledge of proper English grammar and spelling, basic knowledge of mathematics
  • Ability to work with and for young children
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, ability to operate basic office equipment, ability to communicate effectively with the public. Good oral and written communication skills, good reading skills, skill in operating audio-visual equipment and personal computers.


  • Exert up to twenty (20) pounds, walking or standing to a significant degree

This is a job embedded Montessori internship 14.00 per hour, benefits eligible position.

The daily hours are: 7:30 am-3:30 pm

School Year: August 15, 2020-June 15, 2021
